You gotta let people know you exists, right?
If you have a business and you want to make a profit, well...you have to do marketing. You have to let people know your business exists and to come on over. To do that, you have to market your products or services.
There are many ways to do marketing, but here are the basics and where you usually start:
When it comes to brick and mortar store, your location can act as part of your marketing. People passing by can see where you are and they will stop by if they are interested. The name of your shop and signs you have posted can draw people in.
Your online store is where you sell your items online. It can be your website, a Facebook page, Etsy or Shopify and such. People can find your online store by letting them know where it is or by association. Shops on Etsy, for example, can be found by people searching for items on "Etsy" and they come across your shop.
For networking purposes, you will need business cards. Hand it out to everyone you meet in person and hope they stop by and check out your products or services. Flyers, brochures and signs can be costly but effective every time people come across it.
You have to have an online presence. Either a website, a Facebook page, or Google+, just have one. It gives you a lot more chances of being found than just having a store. It also answer questions about your business; like address, phone number, what you sell or what service you provide. Pretty much everything about your business. People will likely stop by your online store before stopping by your store. Social media will also keep you in the forefront of your customer's mind, especially if you have a Facebook page.
If it's too overwhelming to keep track of all the social media that are available, just focus on one or two. Facebook and Pinterest or Google+ and Twitter or vice versa. It's more effective when you are focused on one or two things.
Advertisements are great but can be costly too, but it works. Newspaper ads are not that expensive but doesn't reach that many people. Sioux City Journal has a bulletin board online you can place your advertisement. If you can dish out the money, advertise on the radio and/or television. But if you want to keep on the budget, advertise online. Boost your Facebook page or posts, or advertise on local news websites.
Whatever happens, you have to do marketing to let people know your business exists. Just like you have to do accounting, tend the register, and be the manager all at the same time; you have to be the PR for your business also.
